Amen. I will believe in the Word of God. Today's title is "I Desire That You Be Cleansed." The scripture is from Luke 5:12-16.
While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" And immediately the leprosy left him. Then Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them." Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Amen.
Right now, you and I are continuing to examine Jesus and His ministry. Specifically, we are looking at the early works of Jesus during His public ministry. After Jesus came to Galilee, He traveled around various regions, centering on a town called Capernaum, proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom of God. Today's scripture deals with an event that occurred in one of those towns, where a leper came to Jesus. The Bible records that Jesus healed many sick people. However, the event of healing the leper is mentioned in all three Gospels: Matthew, Mark, and Luke. This indicates its significance. So why do the Gospel writers unanimously testify to this event? What does the healing of the leper by Jesus signify, and what message does God want to convey to you and me through this scripture today?
