Summary

Today's sermon emphasizes how dangerous it is to turn away from God through the story of Jonah. Jonah goes down to Joppa to escape from God, and everything seems to be going smoothly in the process. However, we must realize that this path leads to severing our relationship with God. Even when we feel like we are achieving our goals, we must remember that it may not be God's will.

Pastor Baek Seung-cheol emphasizes the dangers of turning away from God through the story of Jonah in today’s sermon. Jonah goes down to the port of Joppa to escape from God. Remarkably, the Bible adds the adverb "at that time." He encounters a ship going to Tarshish. He boards that ship and flees.

Dear friends, when you flee from God and everything seems to fall perfectly into place—just like gears meshing perfectly, or a gentle south wind blowing, making you feel as if you have achieved your goal—that is the path to destruction. You are turning away from God, yet everything is proceeding flawlessly. Every circumstance is unfolding so well that it seems unbelievable. At that moment, a south wind blows. When Jonah flees from God at the port of Joppa, he happens to find a ship going to Tarshish.

Is this the path that God desires? Is it? Is this the path that God has planned? Is this the path that contains God’s will? Those who are unaware of these truths may think they have fulfilled their own desires and rejoice.
